Poor Lil B.B.

Our sweet BB developed septic arthritis in his/her front legs and has been feeling mighty poorly this past week.

Septic arthritis is caused by a bacteria that travels through the bloodstream from another infection somewhere in the body and settles into the joints. It’s extremely painful and we’ve had a few sleepless nights!

I took BB to the vet and got him/her on antibiotics and got some pain meds. We’ve got a ways to go but he/she seems to be getting a little better each day.

You might notice that I’m doing the he/she thing again. We’re becoming more convinced that BB is a boy and CC is a girl. My ‘beaver mentor’ in upstate New York says the shape of their tails sometimes give clues. She said that usually the males have a more tongue depressor shape and female have a more paddle shape. If this holds true than BB is most likely a boy.

Being miserable has not stopped BB from eating and growing! Check out this size comparison from day one and this morning!

Awwwww. Poor BB! I’m glad he’s getting better though. Their tails really are different, aren’t they? Are they as soft as they look? They are so big! Must be all the love and care they receive on the hill!

Oh boy — are there baby beavers in the future? Or will CC have to “Go on the pill”?

  3. Nan Essler says:
