I Guess I’m A ‘Southerner’ Now

Wow… I’ve been MIA from the blob for longer than I thought!
I was on an unexpected trip to Michigan to bid farewell to Capri K’s mom.

I had planned on returning home on Monday but a snowstorm delayed my departure for a day. I don’t drive in the snow much any more since my unfortunate incident about a year ago.

Anyway, we still had to go out and drive in it since Capri P had to get to the airport. I was backing out of BFG’s driveway from hell and this is where I ended up…

yep, perched precariously on top of the culvert.

WTH?!?!?

Luckily my new hero came to the rescue! My widdle baby nephew who I used to babysit for; left work in his big honkin truck and came to pull me off the culvert.

Capri P did her part by helping to shovel… she’s a snowbird and hadn’t played in the snow for nine years!

(she was just playing, there was no need to shovel under a tire that was dangling in mid-air)

It took our mighty hero exactly 1 minute to pull me to safety and we were all so grateful!

Capri P got her suitcase and we got her to the airport in plenty of time…

Thank you TJ, you take after your dad… I was always calling on him to rescue me whenever I got into a pinch when we were younger.

Clearly I’ve lost my Michigander edge when it comes to driving in the white stuff.

Awe, That Was NOTHIN!

We only got a mere 5 inches or so… normally enough to shut down the town, but after last weekend it seemed like nothin!
It is windy and bone-chillin cold though so I’m sitting by the fire with a nice glass of new wine. It’s called ‘Lucky Duck’… seemed appropriate.

Please continue to keep my bff, Mrs Schmenkman and her Mom(Ruth) and family in your prayers. Hopefully she will be able to get her pacemaker put in tomorrow and will be able to begin a full recovery.
And please say an extra little prayer for Schmenky because she is missing her babies and honey and her kitty-witty-woolie-boolies.

After 28 hours with no power I’m very happy to be back online and to have water! It was an adventure, I’ll let the pictures tell the story…

Just In Time!!!

The UPS guy got this yummy package to me just in the nick of time. Now I’ll have something to keep me occupied (other than shoveling) during the record breaking snow storm that is beginning to dump on us!

I told you I was stocking up on supplies, let me show you what else I did…

I BUILT that shelving ALL BY MYSELF
Oh yes I did!
I shopped for the lumber and did all of the measuring, sawing, screwing, and nailing ALL.BY.MY.SELF!!!

I got all of those lovely clear plastic containers and lovingly filled them with pretty pieces of tiles, glass and glass gems.

I also dug through the potting shed until I found this old thing…

I can remember when we got this up at our cottage. I was little… lets see, probably 9 or 10 years old. We made all kinds of glasses and vases out of old bottles. I thought it was just the coolest thing! It was stuck in our old boathouse for years… I’m not exactly sure how it made it down here to Virginia but I’m glad it did! I was about to put a wine bottle into the recycling bin when I started to admire the lovely color of green that it was, and it struck me… FREE glass for mosaics! I have plenty of lovely cobalt blue wine bottles saved up too!
The directions are priceless…

After each paragraph of direction it states ” DO THIS OR FAIL!”
I failed on my first bottle, but did OK on my second.

I plan on using the glass cutter to cut strips out of the bottles. Hopefully it works!
If I start earning a living with mosaics does this mean my wine will be tax – deductible?

Whatta Week

WOW! What a wonderful week I had with all of my families in Michigan!
The Schmenkmans, the Capris, The Kolars and the Hodges. It certainly was a non stop time of pure enjoyment.
I wish I had the power to twitch my nose and be able to be both here on The Hill with all of my beloved critters and friends, and there, surrounded by these people who I love so much!
We shopped, we chatted, we ate, we chatted, we created mosiacs, we ate, we shopped,we chatted, we brain-stormed,we ate, we shopped, we chatted, we hugged, we goofed, we giggled,we ate, we shopped, we chatted. Serious conversations, silly conversations, just sitting quietly… it was all wondermous!!!
I thank God that He has blessed my life with all of them.

Today, today I’m back on The Hill surrounded by purring Sassies, crowing roosters, clucking chickens, a squawking goose and reflecting on my happy week…

Sorry Capris, but let’s face it… this is how we look and who we are!

This is my great-nephew with his proud gramma, Capri-D! This baby is well-loved and I think he actually liked me!

Did I mention that I love my Mommy??!!

This is Mr and Mrs Schmenkman (aka Honey and Capri K)
Honey actually attended the gathering of his loud and boisterious extended ‘family’ through the Capris! I think he liked us! At least I hope so cuz he’s kinda stuck with us now!

Mr C wasn’t with me during the week but he did manage a quick visit with both families since he was up for his Dad’s 90th birthday celebration. I’ll post more about that gathering later on.

On the healthy living report, I’m proud to say that I was QUITE good most of the week! I haven’t gotten on the Wii to have a body test yet but I’m pretty certain I didn’t wreck my hard work so far.
My slip-ups we all because of Tiramisu, and no one can blame me for that can they??

A Momentary Break In The Action

I have a quiet moment right now as Capri K is off to her bible study and I’m waiting on Capri D to pick me up for a trip to my new favorite store… Hobby Lobby!
I’ve been hearing about that store for years and this is the first time I’ve visited! Wish we could have one near The Hill!

We’re having a great time although there is a huge piece of our puzzle missing… Capri P is greatly missed!

Look Who Is Livin in Paddy’s Place

We never disassembled Paddy’s outdoor enclosure because we just aren’t sure what the future will bring. It is always very sad to look out there and see the emptiness that mirrors the empty place in my heart.
But, I got a call from the wildlife center that they had a domestic goose brought in that they needed to place somewhere. First I tried to get the Crazy Dog Family to take it to put in with the Duck-Dogs; but the enclosure that they are in is just a bit small. (for now)
My plan B was to release it at Chesley to live with Lucy.
But I was intrigued by the curly feathers on it’s wings…

and also on it’s back… the feathers just don’t lay smoothly down as you see on most geese…

I knew that I had seen pictures of geese with curly feathers in one of my poultry catalogs so I googled it… and found out about Sabastopol Geese
Now clearly this goose’s feathers are not that curly, so I’m guessing it is a cross of a Sabastopol and an Embden goose

Anyway, after doing some research, I discovered that the curly feathers on this goose requires it to have some type of shelter in the winter as the water and cold is able to penetrate through the feathers and they are susceptible to freezing without shelter.
There is no shelter at Chesley… enough said.

Looks like Paddy’s place won’t be empty now.

MR.C declared that it shouldn’t be all alone and that we needed to go and get a valley trader to see if anyone has a friend for it. I do soooooooo love that man!

As you may have noticed, I’ve referred to the goose as “it” because we don’t know the gender. Will have to do more research into finding that out so we can determine a name for ‘it’.

This is only a 1 minute, 44 second video and it is brilliant. Make sure you read as well as listen…forward and backward.

This is a video that was submitted in a contest by a 20-year old. The contest was titled “u @ 50″ by AARP. This video won second place. When they showed it, everyone in the room was awe-struck and broke into spontaneous applause. So simple and yet so brilliant. Take a minute and watch it.

We had a quiet weekend as usual. The air and wind was just frigid so we decided not to go for a planned walk in the woods.
Now it’s back to regular life for a while. I was planning on undecorating at Chesley this week but my boss asked me to leave it up for one more week. Guess I’ll need to go and water the arrangements a couple more times.
Later on it’s a trip to the vet for Casey to get his second distemper shot. Big doings on The Hill huh? *yawn*

Taking Charge

We got a Wii!!!!
I got my Christmas bonus and promptly went to Costco and got the Wii system and Wii fit Plus.Now I’ll be all set for my New Year’s resolution to lose this extra poundage that certain prescription drugs have added to my already overloaded system.
The Crazy Dog Lady came down this afternoon to hold my hand and help me get the whole thing connected and set up. I’m so thankful for her!
We are expecting a huge snow storm to start tonight…. possible 20″ or more! Glad we have a new game to keep us occupied!

A Whole Bunch of Nothin!

Wish I had something fun to write about, but life has been pretty slow here on The Hill lately.
We did have fun at the Crazy Dog People’s place last Saturday. I asked them if they would mind showing Mr. C and I the finer features of the Wii gaming system. We’re considering buying it for ourselves as a Christmas present. I had heard from several different people about how much fun it was and how it helps motivate you to do the workouts in the Wii fit program. Mr. C’s friend told him about ‘Big Game Hunter’ and he’s was sold right then.
They gave us an overview and let me tell you… I’m an excellent bowler! I’m terrible at soccer. Not bad at golf. I didn’t try any of the excercise, but yoga looks interesting. I think we might just go ahead and get it… we’ll see.
Otherwise, I’m in the midst of Christmas decorating at work and so far I’m not feeling festive. I’m hoping for some company in between Christmas and New Years though… that would go a long way in changing my mood!
