Go Rudy!!!

March 14, 2008

So when I was at the BRWC last Tuesday we were talking about Rudy and his lack of recent progress. Although, he has improved a lot since I brought him in. When I take him his plate of chopped mice he actually manages to get to his feet and walk (quite unsteadily) right to me as he squeals and loudly tells me that he’s starving! He promptly falls down onto his butt at my feet though

We were feeling pretty discouraged that his progress has stalled for the last couple of weeks and I was getting worried about what might happen to him if this is as far as he was going to go in his recovery.

THEN, yesterday Peg called me to tell me that when she went out to his cage Mr Rudy had managed to get himself up onto a perch about a foot off of the ground and was keeping his balance (although he didn’t stay balanced too long)!! But… Woo Hoo, THAT is a huge step forward and certainly will buy him some more time to continue to improve.

Curve-balls can be a blessing

March 14, 2008

Well so much for the theory that I can’t keep up with my gratitude journal because I hate my handwriting. I guess it’s just that I have to be in the MOOD to sit down and write about stuff.

Anyway, this life curve-ball has really turned out to be a blessing for me. With Mr. C being home he has really helped me get a jump-start on getting all of the gardens ready for the season. We’ve gotten everything cut back and have a bunch of the mulching already done.  At this rate I’ll be able to actually rest a bit before heading out to work at Chesley. Most years I’m already exhausted before I even start working out there.

The Hellebores are in full bloom, the crocus are beautiful and we’ve even got some daffodils already blooming. I’m always so thankful for the arrival of spring.

Although, I have to remember that it is only mid-March  so we aren’t out of the woods yet!

Life throws you curve-balls

March 5, 2008

This morning Mr. C got up and came into the office and kissed the top of my head and thanked me for being a positive influence!

Wow… who would have thunk it? I’m not exactly known for my ‘positivity’!

Last Sunday we returned from a most wondermous vacation in Florida, everything is looking fine… then Mr. C  goes to work on Monday and is told mid-day that his job has been terminated… along with his bosses job and another guy’s too. The company is in extremely bad financial shape so they cut out the upper management’s salaries.

Yikes… no severance, nothing… well, our insurance is paid until the end of the month but it’s always paid a month ahead so that doesn’t even count.  Needless to say, Monday evening was spent in kind of a shocked haze.

The strangest thing is that I’m not all freaked out about it. If you would have asked me a week ago what I would do in this situation I’m sure my answer would have been majorly negative and full of doom and gloom.  My motto usually is to expect the worst so when it happens you’re not surprised and if it doesn’t you’re pleasantly surprised. Well I never expected this big old curve-ball!  BUT…I’m pleasantly surprised that I have real peace about it… I know that God has a plan for us and this must just be a part of it. I’m not saying that I’m not feeling kinda scared right now, but we have been so blessed in our 23 (this Oct) years of marriage that I just know things will all work out. We’ve been pretty smart over the years and not racked up a whole bunch of debt so we’ll make it through this bump in the road just fine.  My biggest fear is that we may have to leave Sassy Cat Hill if a job turns up in another part of the country, but if that is what His plan is for us we’ll just have to go where He leads us. (I might kick and scream a little bit though… I’m sure He’ll forgive me.)

If y’all would just keep us in prayer we would surely appreciate it.

I’m going to sit here awhile and marvel at my positive attitude about this and later I’ll write  a post about the great time we had on beautiful North Captiva Island.
